GENETWORx Laboratory has introduced a 99% accurate COVID-19 test to help in the fight against the pandemic affecting the United States. The test is available through physician offices, state departments, hospitals, emergency management, assisted living facilities, employers and other entities that intend to test multiple people. It comes in the form of a nose swab kit that needs to be sent back to the lab for testing using an included prepaid envelope.

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 also known as the Novel Coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2 or 2019-nCoV is the name for the serious respiratory disease responsible for the pandemic currently affecting the world. The pandemic was officially declared by the World Health Organization on March 12th of 2020.

Does GENETWORx provide a test for COVID-19?

Yes. GENETWORx is one of the U.S. laboratories currently distributing COVID-19 test kits and analyzing them for the presence of the complex COVID-virus. The swab test is not currently approved for direct to consumer distribution, in order to receive it a request from a physician or an authorized healthcare provider is required.

How does the GENETWORx COVID-19 test work?

The test must be requested from GENETWORx by a qualified medical provider. Once requested and purchased, the test is delivered in the form of a kit. Each kit contains a swab to collect a specimen sample from the nose, a vial of universal transport media to preserve the sample for up to 7 days, a requisition form, test instructions, biohazard bag and a prepaid FedEx overnight shipping bag for returning the collected sample to the lab for COVID-19 testing. Test results are available through your physician or medical provider within one business day of GENETWORx receiving the test kit.

How accurate is the GENETWORx COVID-19 test?

The GENETWORx COVID-19 test is guaranteed 99% accurate. Due to our special, in-lab testing method and highly specialized equipment we are confident in promising our customers best in industry accuracy when using our COVID-19 test. GENETWORx's COVID-19 test picks up the COVID-19 virus at its earliest stages, limiting the risk of false positives.

Is the GENETWORx COVID-19 test certified?

Yes. GENETWORx is CLIA certified and CAP accredited. The test is guaranteed 99% sensitive and specific. Three federal agencies are responsible for CLIA: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). CAP accreditation is provided by the College of American Pathologists.

Is the GENETWORx COVID-19 test covered by private health insurance, medicaid and medicare?

In many cases, the GENETWORx COVID-19 test is fully covered by private insurance, medicaid and medicare, particularly if ordered for a patient who has been exposed to or is showing symptoms of the COVID-19 virus. GENETWORx Other exceptions may be possible.

How can I order COVID-19 tests from GENETWORx?

COVID-19 tests are currently not available direct to consumer, the tests must be requested from GENETWORx by a qualified medical provider. A list of qualified medical providers for each state is available. GENETWORx has a minimum order requirement and is not suitable for single consumers in need of COVID-19 testing. How are test results provided and how long does it take to receive them?

Once GENETWORx receives a complete and valid nose swab sample it will be tested within the next business day. The result – whether it’s positive or negative – will be sent confidentially to your physician via our portal. Please reach out to your physician for result information.

What is the difference between a COVID-19 test and a COVID-19 antibody test?

An antibody test is different from a regular COVID-19 test, its main purpose is to determine if the person tested has previously been infected by the virus and thus developed COVID-19 antibodies. Unlike a GENETWORx COVID-19 test, an antibody test is not a reliable way to test patients for a COVID-19 infection. This is mainly because it is unable to detect a COVID-19 infection until it’s in the late stages. This information is valuable because existing antibodies provide immunity to future infection with the same virus. A regular COVID-19 test is designed specifically to detect the presence of the virus and not the antibodies created by it. The GENETWORx COVID-19 test is considered the gold standard due to its accuracy, ability to detect infection in earliest stages and result turnaround time.

Does GENETWORx provide a COVID-19 antibody test?

No. GENETWORx does not currently provide a COVID-19 antibody test but is consistently working to improve capabilities to meet the needs of the current epidemic. GENETWORx is currently working on antibody testing and aims attain the capability by the end of May.

Does GENETWORx have any recommendations besides testing to help combat the COVID-19 virus?

Some advice from GENETWORx includes:

  1. Clean your hands as often as possible with warm water and soap or sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content and avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless hands are clean
  2. Avoid close contact with others and do not leave home unless absolutely necessary
  3. Cover your mouth and nose with best mask available when leaving home, even regular cloth is better than nothing, keep sneezes and coughs covered
  4. Keep a social distance of about 6 feet even while wearing a mask
  5. Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs, tables, phones, etc. daily
